- Disputes with Turkey: in the Aegean Sea Turkey
challenges the internationally recognized status quo, disputes International Law
of the Sea Convention allowing Greece to extend territorial waters to 12 miles
and threatens use of military force; the Cyprus Problem and continued
Turkish military occupation of northern Cyprus; protection of the Ecumenical
Patriarchate of Constantinople.
- Disputes with Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia (FYROM): Greece
objects to the use of the name Macedonia and of ancient Greek symbols
on FYROM's flag. Greece also wants changed certain articles of FYROM's
constitution which imply territorial claims against the Greek province
of Macedonia. Relevant articles in constitution, similar to those of communist
manifesto of the 1940s.Greek trade embargo against FYROM.
- Disputes with Albania: Outstanding disputes over the status and
rights of the ethnic Greek minority living in southern Albania
